Arthritis

Arthritis is not a single disease; it is an informal way of referring to joint pain or joint disease. People of all ages can and do have arthritis. It is most common among women and occurs more frequently as people get older.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis most often starts in the small joints of hands and feet. It usually affects the same joints on both sides of the body. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. This means immune system attacks its own tissues. With rheumatoid arthritis, instead of protecting the joint, the immune system begins to produce substances that destroy the joint, as well as the ligaments, tendons, and muscles that support it. This can result in joint deformity – such as bent, gnarled fi ngers – and loss of movement. Prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis is 0.75% in India.

Osteoarthritis

Also known as “wear and tear” arthritis, osteoarthritis often occurs during middle age. It develops slowly and the pain it causes worsens over time. Osteoarthritis occurs over time. When the cartilage wears away, it becomes frayed and rough. Moving the bones along this exposed surface causes pain.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive rheumatic disease characterized by the degeneration of articular cartilage. It is the most common of all rheumatic disorders and is destined to become one of the most prevalent and costly diseases in our society.

Promising results are observed showed that Jeevanrekha Arthritis management could significantly improve hip or knee OA symptoms and reduce patients’ NSAID consumption. Jeevanrekha Arthritis management was found to have a delayed (by 2 months) treatment effect that resulted in improved pain and function. This suggests that Jeevanrekha Arthritis Management is an effective slow‐acting management for OA. This suggests that Jeevanrekha Arthritis management may stimulate the deposition and repair of extracellular matrix components. Although the active ingredient(s) of Jeevanrekha Arthritis management varies as per the individual, management has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on various interleukins , prostaglandin E2 production and collagenase synthesis . Jeevanrekha Arthritis management stimulates collagen synthesis in articular chondrocyte cultures and may promote transforming growth factor β‐induced matrix repair mechanisms in articular cartilage. Furthermore, Jeevanrekha Arthritis management increased the production of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1, an effect that could help in blocking the plasmin cascade that leads to metalloproteinase activation. Although the clinical evidence for Jeevanrekha Arthritis management is promising, the medicines used in the management are completely evidence based with number of medicines and herbs have undergone RCT.

Jeevanrekha Arthritis Management has classified patients of OA on the basis of Weight. This is very unique classification where treatment solely depends on the weight of the patients.

Majority of the times knee joint is affected in OA which is mostly weight induced at the early age hence different type of management is required.
